The best fall protection training is made up of 3 key elements:- Awareness – this includes a brief training session onsite that provide a basic overview of common fall hazards, equipment, and how it can be used. This part of the training does not involve hands-on practice or tests regarding the knowledge trainees retain.
- Authorized person training – this is the second level of fall protection training and it involves keeping workers compliant with OSHA regulations. This phase of the training is job specific which means that it focuses on fall hazards that are particular to certain tasks.
- Competent person training – this phase of the training covers a range of fall hazards and is especially useful for supervisors who need to understand and applicable standards. A competent person has to have extensive training since they should be able to address any fall hazard issue.
They should also be able to evaluate it and provide solutions to prevent them in the future. A competent person should also be able to determine whether workers have all of the equipment they need to stay safe from fall hazards.
