Is the Linux on Azure Certification Really Worth It?

Meredith Quinn September 1, 2016 0

Late last year, in a move that seemed to astonish the cloud industry, Microsoft and Linux buried the hatchet and worked together to create an MCSA: Linux on Azure certification.

The two cloud giants have long vied for the top spot among IT professionals for preferred server administration tools, but it seems the two are putting aside their differences for the greater good of the industry.

“It’s obvious, if we don’t support Linux, we’ll be Windows only and that’s not practical,” Microsoft Azure’s CTO Mark Russinovich told ZDNet.

And it’s clear the numbers seem to agree with him. He went on to reveal that while “last fall one in five instances on Azure were Linux. Today, about a year later, one in four instances are Linux.”

So why the need for this new certification?

Well, with the rapidly growing number of both Linux and Azure instances, the need for highly skilled cloud professionals grows also. There are currently 70,000 listings for U.S. cloud jobs on Indeed.com, with the majority of those being senior level positions.

Every day, more and more companies are making the move to the cloud. Therefore, they must seek competent IT professionals who can successfully navigate, implement, and maintain their cloud solutions.

Consequently, investing in the MCSA: Linux on Azure certification is a prudent way for current IT professionals to meet this growing demand and get in early on a potentially lucrative career path.

Those seeking the certification can receive it by taking two exams: Implementing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions and Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator.

After successful completion of both exams, Microsoft will award the certification.
