Description

The objective of this course, the first in the GAS TURBINE series, is to present the main construction and design features of gas turbines as used for power generation. Basic cycles are discussed, and different sizes and machine layouts are presented.

Course Objectives

Terminal Objective: The trainee shall explain gas turbine basics.

  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall list the different gas turbine cycles (simple,Brayton, combined cycle).
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the gas turbine simple cycle.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the temperatures and pressures associated with the gas turbine cycles.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the gas turbine Brayton cycle.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the gas turbine combined cycle.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall provide an overview of the different gas turbine models.

Terminal Objective: The trainee shall explain how air is utilized in the gas turbine.

  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the air compressor in a gas turbine.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the air path through a combined cycle gas turbine.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall provide a description of the air input and output to and from the gas turbine.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall list the common gas turbine air compressor types.

Terminal Objective: The trainee shall explain the combustion process in the gas turbine.

  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall explain how the combustor functions.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the design of a combustor.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall explain the hot gas path through the turbine.
