Description

The objective of this course is to present and discuss features of the various support systems and auxiliaries that are necessary for operation of the gas turbine. Both ON-BASE and OFF-BASE equipment is studied. Note that the design of the support systems varies according to the size and purpose of the gas turbine unit. Aero derivative machines are discussed in a separate course.

Terminal Objective: The trainee shall describe the gas turbine oil systems.

  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the turbine bearing lubricating system.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the governor and turbine hydraulic systems.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the control to the governor and hydraulic systems.

Terminal Objective: The trainee shall describe the air systems utilized on a gas turbine.

  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall discuss the primary air inlet control.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the air flow paths.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the air compressor system.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall explain how air produces fuel atomization.
  • Enabling Objective: The trainee shall describe the operation of the combustor.
