Complete California Continuing Education Coursework Online
Every 4 years, the California Department of Real Estate (DRE) requires 45 total hours of real estate continuing education (CE) to renew your license from an approved training provider like us.
Which California Real Estate License Renewal Training Do I Need?
The renewal package you need depends on whether you’re renewing your license for the first time or it’s a subsequent renewal.
- If this is your first renewal as a salesperson, our California 45-Hour Salesperson First Renewal CE Package includes all the courses required by the California DRE.
- If this is your first renewal as a broker, choose the California 45-Hour Broker First Renewal CE Package to meet all first-renewal CE requirements.
- If you’re renewing for the second time or later (as either a salesperson or broker), the California 45-Hour Broker & Salesperson Subsequent Renewal CE Package is the right choice to fulfill your CE hours.

Who Needs California Real Estate License Renewal Training?
Every four (4) years, all California real estate licensees need to complete specific license renewal training requirements, which are also called continuing education (CE) requirements.
There are two different sets of California license renewal requirements depending on whether you’ve completed a renewal before, so be sure you’re choosing the right type of package before you commit to a purchase.
What Is Required for Your First Time Real Estate License Renewal in California?
For your first license renewal as a salesperson or as a broker, you have a slightly different set of requirements. You need to shop for a package that specifies "first renewal" to ensure the right balance of hours.
The required distribution of topics include:
- 17-hour courses on six mandatory topics for salespersons and 20-hour courses on seven mandatory topics for brokers:
- Implicit Bias Training (all first renewals)
- California Agency (all first renewals)
- Code of Ethics (all first renewals)
- Trust Funds (all first renewals)
- Fair Housing (all first renewals)
- Risk Management (all first renewals)
- Brokerage Administration and Management (broker first renewal only)
- At least 18 hours on elective Consumer Protection topics
- All remaining elective hours (10 for salespersons, 7 for brokers) dedicated to either Consumer Protection or Consumer Service
California Subsequent Renewal CE Requirements
Required topics are similar for your second and subsequent renewals, but you get more elective hours – and if you're a salesperson, a Management and Supervision topic becomes mandatory.
Subsequent-renewal requirements are the same for both salesperson and broker licensees:
- At least 20 hours total covering seven mandatory subjects:
- Implicit Bias Training
- Agency
- Ethics
- Trust Funds
- Fair Housing
- Risk Management
- Management and Supervision
- At least 18 hours dedicated to Consumer Protection topics
- The remaining 7 hours committed to either Consumer Protection or Consumer Service
