• One nine-hour CE survey course that covers the seven mandatory subjects, (ethics, agency, trust fund handling, risk management, management and supervision, fair housing, and implicit bias training) OR licensees can choose to take individual courses in all of those mandatory subjects;
• A minimum of 18 hours of CE courses in the category of consumer protection; and
• The remaining clock hours to complete the 45 hours of continuing education may relate to either consumer service or consumer protection courses.

In very limited circumstances, they may grant an extension or exemption. In most cases, failure to meet the training requirements before your license expires causes your license to be placed in “inactive” status. You have to spend at least as long in a course as the credit hours it's worth. You're also limited to no more than 8 hours a day on the course material.

In other words, to finish all 45 credit hours of CE, your fastest option is 6 full-time days working through those courses.

The DRE also has limits on how many final exams you can get credit for in a day: 15 credit-hours' worth in a 24-hour period. If you take multiple exams on the same day, you need to keep an eye on the total credits, because you are responsible for monitoring your compliance to this rule.

Your license expires every 4 years, and you must complete your CE requirements and submit your renewal application before that time. You aren't permitted to work as a real estate agent or broker once your license expiration date has passed.
