Make Sure You Understand the Requirements

Be sure to pay special attention to where you are in your journey as a real estate agent. Some states require a special first renewal known as post-licensing that allows a salesperson to retain their active license. In some cases, the post-license education must be completed on a different timeline than the standard renewal cycle.

Real estate rules and regulations are frequently updated. In some cases, the renewal timelines, processes, or even course topics may change. It’s important to review the most recent press releases and current rules to ensure you have a strong understanding of current CE requirements.

Select an approved provider with the courses you need

In most cases, you’ll need to obtain your continuing education courses from an approved provider whose course topic covers the type of hours you need. Post-License and Continuing Education courses are approved for certain types of credit hours. Some are elective, others are mandatory/core, and a few states require hours in stated topic areas. It’s important that you ask your course provider about how their courses are approved as you would never want to take multiple courses only to find out they don’t meet your continuing education requirements.

Complete the courses and make sure your state has a record

It’s never a good idea to procrastinate on completing your continuing education courses. Many states require you to complete the courses, report the hours, and file the proper renewal application and fees. If you wait until the last minute, you may not be able to file for renewal within the proper window leading to possible fees and considerable hassle.
