Michigan License Renewal
The current license cycle runs November 1, 2015 to October 31, 2018. You must complete the required continuing education before your license expires. Professional development training is intended to ensure real estate licensees are knowledgeable and up to date on important real estate topics and laws.
Required Real Estate Continuing Education
The law changed on January 1, 2015 to no longer require continuing education courses to be preapproved or reported to the Department as a condition of renewal. Within each three-year cycle, a you must still complete at least 18 clock hours of CE real estate courses. At least two of those hours of CE must involve law, rules, and court cases regarding real estate and be completed in each license cycle year.
Legal Continuing Education
In each year of a license cycle, you must complete two hours of continuing education courses involving statutes, rules, and court cases. It is no longer by calendar year. Changes to the continuing education requirements will NOT go into effect until the next licensing cycle that begins on November 1, 2018.
Your annual requirement for two hours of eligible legal continuing education must be completed by December 31st for calendar year 2017.
Whether you’re a broker or salesperson, if your license has been lapsed for less than three years, you must complete six clock hours of continuing education for each year and partial year the license was lapsed.
If the license has been lapsed for three or more continuous years, you must provide proof of successful completion of one of the following:
- Six hours of continuing education for each of year the license was lapsed.
- Repeat the pre-license courses (40 hours for a salesperson or 90 hours for a broker).
- Pass the examination required for licensure.
