4-Hour Annuity Certification - Texas

About This Course

Welcome to your Texas Annuity Certification course. Producers licensed on or after September 1, 2021, must complete an annuity training course approved for at least 4 hours prior to selling, soliciting, or negotiating such products.

Texas Insurance agents who want to sell annuities on or after January 1, 2022, must now take new or revised certification courses that will be offered through approved CE Providers. The courses include “Best-Interest” training, which outlines the requirement that agents act in the best interest of the consumer at the time the annuity recommendation is made.

For a Resident Agent who has completed a certification training course before January 1, 2022.

You must complete one of the following TDI approved courses:

• A new four-credit training course after 6 months after January 1, 2022.
• A revised one-credit training course within 6 months after January 1, 2022.

For a Resident Agent who has not yet completed any training courses, you must complete the new four-credit training course approved by TDI.

Licensees who are exempt from Continuing Education are not exempt from the initial training requirement. Life, Accident & Health licensees may not sell, solicit, or negotiate a contract for an annuity or represent an insurer in relation to an annuity in Texas until they have completed a 4-hour Annuity Certification Course that includes the following topics:

• The types of annuities and various classifications of annuities;
• Identification of the parties to an annuity;
• How fixed, variable and indexed annuity contract provisions affect consumers;
• The application of income taxation of qualified and nonqualified annuities;
• The primary uses of annuities;
• Appropriate sales practices; replacement and disclosure requirements.

This certification course will provide you with quality continuing education for meeting your state CE requirements. It focuses on Annuities with attention to the various types of annuities and issues specific to states in the arena of accumulation through annuities.

Distribution opportunities and tax consequences for withdrawals that are a fundamental component of annuity accumulation programs are highlighted. Explored are the types of annuities - Fixed, Variable, and Indexed.

Reviews include the parties to an annuity along with their rights and responsibilities as well as the provisions of fixed, variable, and indexed annuities. We talk about how they affect consumers. Taxation of qualified and non-qualified annuities is discussed. We review specific qualified tax sheltered plans. The primary uses of annuities are explored.

Successful completion of this course satisfies the initial Texas Annuity Certification course requirement.
