About This Course

Welcome to your Texas Annuity Certification course. This section applies to a resident agent who sells, solicits, or negotiates a contract for an annuity in this state; or represents or purports to represent an insurer in relation to such an annuity.

This course covers complete eight hours of continuing education that specifically relates to annuities during the agent's two-year licensing period.

• Topics related specifically to annuities.
  (a) the types of annuities and various classifications of annuities.
  (b) identification of the parties to an annuity.
  (c) how fixed, variable, and indexed annuity contract provisions affect consumers.
  (d) the application of income taxation of qualified and nonqualified annuities.
  (e) the primary uses of annuities; and
  (f) appropriate standard of conduct sales practices, replacement, and disclosure requirements.
• State laws and rules related to Annuities Best Interest, including requirements adopted under Chapter 1115.
• Prohibited sales practices regarding annuities.
• Recognition of indicators that a prospective insured may lack the short-term memory or judgment to knowingly purchase an annuity.
• Fraudulent and unfair trade practices regarding the sale of annuities.

Successful completion of this course satisfies the ongoing Texas Annuity Certification course requirement.
