About This Course

Responsible Vendor Training promotes proper handling and consumption practices, reducing the risk of accidents, misuse, or unlawful marijuana sales. This course meets Colorado’s MED requirements by covering necessary topics including the laws regarding marijuana possession and use in Colorado, the different types of marijuana products available in the state, and the effects of using marijuana.

Our comprehensive and up-to-date course will teach you how to identify when someone is impaired by marijuana and what to do if they break the law. You will also learn ways to recognize when someone is at risk of being impaired by marijuana, and how to prevent the sale of marijuana to intoxicated individuals or underage customers.

Upon completing this course, you will know how to check identification properly and intervene and prevent the unlawful use of marijuana and marijuana products. Finally, it provides information on the penalties, fines, and possible jail time for not following marijuana laws and regulations.

Is Colorado Marijuana Training Required?

Colorado's Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) requires that employees of retail and medical marijuana establishments with delivery permits, as well as licensed hospitality businesses, successfully complete MED-approved Responsible Vendor Training to obtain a responsible vendor license.

Who Should Take This Course?

MED-approved Responsible Vendor Training (RVT) is for workers that handle, sell, or transport cannabis. This training ensures that these employees understand state regulations and are familiar with the industry's top practices for lawful and secure transactions. Obtaining your RVT certificate can also help minimize liability, penalties, and sanctions.

Positions that need a RVT certificate include:

• Delivery drivers

Without a current RVT license, employees are prohibited from handling, selling, or transporting cannabis products.

2. Colorado MED Badge: You need to obtain a Colorado MED (Marijuana Enforcement Division) Badge, which is mandatory for anyone working in the marijuana industry in the state.
3. Background Check: You must pass a criminal background check, which includes fingerprinting.

How Do You Get a MED Badge in Colorado? 

To get a MED badge in Colorado, follow these steps:

1. Meet Eligibility Requirements: Ensure you are at least 21 years old and have a clean criminal record.
2. Complete the Application: Fill out the MED badge application on the Marijuana Enforcement Division’s website.
3. Background Check and Fingerprinting: Complete a background check, which includes fingerprinting. This can be done at approved locations.
4. Submit Application and Fees: Submit your completed application along with the required fees to the MED office.
5. Wait for Approval: Once your application is reviewed and approved, you will receive your Colorado MED Badge, allowing you to work as a budtender or in other roles within the cannabis industry.
