Miners' Rights and Responsibilities

The term 'Miners' Rights and Responsibilities Certification' is not an official term. If a supervisor refers to this, they likely mean that you need to obtain a certificate of completion for an approved course by that name.

Our Miners’ Rights & Responsibilities course teaches mining employees the rights they have under MSHA standards, like representation, work refusal, and hazard reporting, in the pursuit of protecting their safety and health on the job. It also covers their responsibilities towards upholding the safety of others.

As soon as you pass the final exam for Miners’ Rights & Responsibilities, you’ll get a certificate of completion to print or download. Your employer will want a copy for MSHA compliance purposes, and you should keep one for your records as well.

Anyone subject to Part 46 or Part 48 MSHA standards needs to be educated on their rights and responsibilities. This course may be used within an employer’s MSHA-approved training plan.

This course includes 32 modules covering your personal rights under the Mine Act, the rights guaranteed to Part 46 and Part 48 mine workers, and the responsibilities that miners and their supervisors bear for maintaining safety according to MSHA standards.

The final exam for this course will consist of several multiple-choice questions designed to test your understanding of key concepts. While the exact number of questions may vary, the exam will cover a range of topics, including personal rights under the Mine Act, health protection rights, and emergency preparedness protocols. You'll be assessed on your knowledge of miner and supervisor responsibilities, as well as safety regulations and procedures.

A certificate of completion is provided upon passing the final exam. Certificate validity may vary. Annual refresher training may be required under the operator’s training plan. Please confirm with your operator or employer to ensure you meet all site-specific training requirements.
