MSHA Surface Mining Confined Spaces

While there is technically no "MSHA Surface Mining Confined Spaces certification," you may be required to complete training on confined space hazards specific to surface mining. In most cases, this simply means completing a course by that name and earning a certificate of completion.

Our MSHA Surface Mining Confined Space course will teach you about the hazards and threats associated with confined spaces, how to recognize a confined space and the precautions and procedures that need to be taken to comply with MSHA Part 46.

You'll receive a certificate of completion as soon as you pass the final exam for MSHA Surface Mining Confined Spaces. It will be available right away for you to print or download. Your employer will need a copy, but you should keep a copy for your records too.

Even "surface mines" have confined space hazards. As a result, anyone who works in a Part 46 surface mine needs to understand the hazards of working in such a space, as well as MSHA's requirements and procedures for protecting everyone's safety. This Surface Mining Confined Spaces course meets certain requirements for MSHA New Miner Training.

Our MSHA Surface Mining Confined Spaces course has 35 modules covering the dangers of confined spaces, types, and definitions of confined spaces, an overview of the permit system, atmospheric hazards, physical hazards, and confined space hazard control.

The final exam consists of multiple-choice questions designed to test your understanding of the key topics covered throughout the course. While the exact number of questions may vary, you can expect to be assessed on subjects such as confined space classifications, atmospheric hazards, entry requirements, hazard controls, and emergency response procedures.

When an MSHA Surface Mining Confined Spaces course is completed as part of Part 46 New Miner Training, the certificate of completion is valid for 36 months. During the intervening three years, you need to accumulate at least 12 months of work experience to qualify as an "experienced miner." If you fail to meet the work experience requirement in that time, you may need to repeat the course.
