Who Needs NFPA 70e Arc Flash Certification?

NFPA 70e is the recognized industry standard for electrical safety, and OSHA often uses NFPA 70e as a benchmark when citing safety problems related to electricity.

As a result, NFPA 70e Arc Flash training should be taken by all qualified persons with the skills and knowledge to work directly with electrical equipment. Unqualified persons who are exposed to electrical hazards, including maintenance, janitorial staff, and similar jobs, should be given awareness-level training for arc flash and similar electrical hazards so they understand the risks and how to avoid them.

A full list of all NFPA-70E courses is available on the OSHA Campus NFPA 70E training page.

How Long Does NFPA 70e Arc Flash Certification Last?

NFPA 70e standards are revised every three years, so training needs to be repeated at least that often. You should retake the course sooner if your role or work conditions change or if there are indications that your safety knowledge isn’t adequate, like a close call or inspection failure.
