What Is OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Training?

The OSHA 10-Hour General Industry course is entry-level safety training designed to raise awareness of workplace hazards and worker rights under OSHA 29 CFR 1910. As part of OSHA's Outreach Training Program. It is one of the entry-level offerings within the broader OSHA 10-Hour Training program, focused on helping workers in general industry settings recognize and respond to common on-the-job risks.

You'll learn OSHA standards and commonly accepted safety practices for reducing accidents and injuries, covering common general industry hazards such as fall protection, electrical and chemical risks, flammable substances, fire prevention, and the proper use of personal protective equipment.

You'll also gain a clear understanding of your rights as a worker and what your employer is responsible for when it comes to maintaining a safe workplace, giving you the awareness and confidence to recognize when safety standards aren't being met.

The OSHA 10-hour General Industry Outreach Training course has been reviewed and authorized by OSHA for online distribution. OSHA-authorized Outreach training courses are provided in partnership with 360training.

Who Needs OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Training?

General industry is any industry not included in construction, maritime, or agriculture. An OSHA 10 General Industry card is well-suited for entry-level workers across a wide range of non-construction fields.

OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Certificate & DOL Card

OSHA does not "certify" workers. This course is part of the OSHA Outreach Training for General Industry program, and successful completion results in an official OSHA 10 Department of Labor (DOL) card, a widely recognized credential available through the program.

Upon successful completion, you will receive:

  • An immediate digital certificate of completion available upon finishing the course and required survey
  • An official OSHA 10 DOL card, mailed after course and survey completion — typically within 2 weeks

The OSHA 10 DOL card does not expire under federal OSHA. However, employers, states, or specific job sites may require refresher training or re-training over time, so always check with your employer or local jurisdiction for any additional requirements.

Course Objectives 

This mobile compatible 10-hour General & Healthcare Industry Outreach Training Program is intended to provide an entry-level general industry worker's broad awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a general industry site. Students will be introduced to OSHA policies, procedures, and standards as well as general industry safety and health principles and work practices covered in OSHA Act Part 1910. Special emphasis will be placed on areas most hazardous using OSHA standards as a guide. General industry workers must receive additional training, when required by OSHA standards, on specific hazards of the job Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive an OSHA 10-Hour General & Healthcare Industry Outreach DOL course completion card within 2 weeks.

  • Recognize the OSH Act, the functions and resources of OSHA
  • Become aware of the OSHA inspection priorities and describe the inspection process
  • Identify the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees under the OSH Act
  • Discuss the major hazards associated with general industry work and how to avoid, protect or control them. This includes:

OSHA 10-Hour General Industry training is not federally mandated by OSHA for all workers. However, it is commonly required by employers, unions, state or local jurisdictions, or specific job sites, particularly as part of onboarding standards or contract requirements. Because these requirements vary widely and can change, always confirm what applies to your role with your employer or local and state regulations.

OSHA 10-Hour General Industry training supports eligibility for a range of entry-level roles by covering common workplace hazards and safety awareness, but it does not replace experience, licensure, or role-specific training.

Can I Finish OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Training Faster?

No. OSHA sets minimum time requirements for the OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Outreach course, including both total required hours and daily time limits, which cannot be reduced or bypassed. While you cannot shorten the course, you can complete it as efficiently as the program allows by progressing consistently and staying within the daily limits set by the OSHA Outreach Training Program.
