About This Course
Our daily lives can involve a variety of agency relationships:
- When you ask your physician to communicate information to the pharmacy to fill a prescription
- If you retain an auto broker to locate a replacement car or truck
- When you deliver some inherited furniture to an antique dealer for sale on consignment
All of these examples involve a contract, either verbal or written, where you are authorizing an individual to act as an agent of sorts to fulfill a specific task for you. It is that contract that creates the agency relationship.
Agency relationships serve as the foundation of most real estate transactions. Clients place trust in a licensee to fulfill certain duties and fiduciary responsibilities. There are four types of agency relationships in Texas – you can serve as a seller's agent, buyer's agent, subagent, or intermediary. Each comes with its own set of guidelines and ethical issues.
It's important to enter your career with a thorough understanding of agency law in general and Texas agency law, specifically. This will enable you to serve your clients and customers to the best of your ability. It will also help you avoid litigation.
This course fulfills Texas pre-license educational requirements.
