U.S. Department of Labor Awards $10.5 Million in Training Grants to 80 Nonprofit Organizations for Workplace Safety and Health

September 26 – $10.5 million in one-year training grants has been announced this week by the DOL. According to the press release “The funding through the Susan Harwood Training Grants Program will provide education and training to help businesses and workers address workplace hazards and adopt best practices for avoiding workplace injuries.”. U.S. Department of Labor Making Grants Available to Georgia for Hurricane Irma Relief

September – In response to Hurricane Irma’s effect on Georgia, the Department of Labor, in cooperation with the state of Georgia and local partners, are setting aside funding and making grants available for workforce needs. In addition, additional regulatory flexibilities are going to be extended at this time to deal with the Hurricane response efforts.

Unemployment Figures for Previous Week

September 28 – The latest unemployment initial claims jumped to 277,000 last week. This is the highest level for since the week of February 6, 2016. It is important to note that Hurricane Harvey and Irma impacted this week’s claims. To read the full report, follow the link above.
