What is ISO Training?

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) is an international organization of experts from 164 countries that sets standards for businesses worldwide. Its goal is to ensure products and services everywhere are safe, dependable, and effective. With over 23,000 International Standards, ISO impacts just about every aspect of technology and manufacturing.

Achieving ISO certification signals that your organization takes safety and quality seriously. ISO offers hundreds of types of standards that industries can become certified in. Two of the most prominent are ISO 9000 and ISO 14001.

What’s the Difference Between ISO 9001 and ISO 1400?

ISO 9001

ISO 9001 sets the requirements for a quality management system (QMS). Organizations use this standard to demonstrate their competence in supplying products and services meeting customer and regulatory requirements.

The ISO 9001:2015 examines the qualifications for a quality management system, such as planning, documentation, resource management, analysis, and improvement. After a business has successfully enforced  ISO 9001:2015 requirements, they still must complete an audit to get their certification. ISO 9001:2015 is the latest version of ISO QMS standards.

ISO 14001

The ISO 14001 family of standards pertains to environmental management, providing you with practical tools for creating an environmental management policy, determining the environmental impact your products and/or services, and planning and enforcing programs to meet environmental objectives.

ISO 14001 is upgraded frequently, but ISO 14001:2015 is the most up-to-date version of ISO's EMS standards. All industries and businesses that adopt ISO 14001 must update environmental management systems to reflect newer standards. Since ISO 14001 employs the same principles as ISO 9001, it's easy to combine with existing ISO management systems.

How do I Become ISO Certified?

To become ISO certified, your organization must demonstrate its adherence to ISO standards, success in fulfilling all requirements of customers and regulators, and consistency in maintaining documentation.
Here are the basic steps to effectively meet these requirements and earn ISO certification for your company:

  1. Achieve an understanding of the particular ISO standard.
  2. Nominate a quality manager to implement the standard.
  3. Instruct the quality manager in all the ISO processes.
  4. Earn the full support and commitment of management and employees.
  5. Devise ISO documentation meeting the standard requirements.
  6. Administer the ISO system and training employees.
  7. Execute internal ISO 9001 audits.
  8. Have an independent ISO auditor conduct a certification audit.

Why is ISO Certification Important?

ISO 9001 and 14001 are both important but for different reasons.

ISO 9001 allows businesses to monitor inconsistencies and enforce a higher degree of quality. Using a quality management system helps you to maximize growth, profitability, and cost savings.

ISO 14001 helps companies to maintain safe and healthy workplace environments. It also enables business leaders in multiple industries to take advantage of environmental improvements annually or even quarterly.
