What Is OSHA?
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is the federal agency responsible for setting and enforcing workplace safety standards across the United States. Established under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, it was created to reduce on-the-job injuries, illnesses, and fatalities by holding employers accountable for maintaining safe work environments.
Standards apply to most private sector workers across general industry, construction, maritime, and agriculture. Whether you work on a job site, in a warehouse, or on a factory floor, these regulations define the minimum safety requirements your employer must meet and that every worker should understand. Many workers begin with entry-level training like OSHA 10 or more advanced programs, such as OSHA 30 to build a strong foundation in workplace safety.
Why OSHA Training Matters
OSHA training helps reduce workplace injuries and fatalities by teaching workers how to recognize hazards and follow safe work practices. This education helps employees identify risks, use protective equipment properly, and prevent accidents before they occur. risks, use protective equipment properly, and prevent accidents before they occur.
Employers across high-risk industries increasingly require OSHA safety training as a condition of employment. Workers in construction often complete an OSHA 10-Hour Construction Training or move up to an OSHA 30-Hour Construction Training, while those in other fields may take an OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Training or OSHA 30-Hour General Industry Training, depending on the employer's requirements. Beyond meeting compliance requirements, trained workers contribute to safer job sites, fewer lost workdays, and reduced liability, all benefits that make a real difference for both workers and employers.
Benefits of OSHA Safety Training
OSHA safety training is recognized nationwide by employers across industries, making it one of the most portable credentials a worker can earn. Completing job-related safety training signals to employers that you take workplace safety seriously, which can open doors to better roles and higher pay.
Key benefits of completing OSHA training include:
- Nationwide employer recognition across general industry and construction
- Improved job site safety awareness and hazard identification skills
- Increased employability and eligibility for higher-paying roles
- Compliance with employer and regulatory requirements
- Certificates available immediately upon course completion

Course options include the 10-Hour track for entry-level workers and the 30-Hour track for supervisors and safety leads, available in both Construction and General Industry. Courses are offered in English and Spanish, and your certificate is available for instant download once you finish.
What Are Expected Pay Rate Increases After OSHA Training?
OSHA training can meaningfully impact earning potential, especially in construction and general industry roles where OSHA certification is a baseline requirement for employment or advancement. Workers holding OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certificates are often eligible for higher-wage positions, supervisory roles, or jobsite safety responsibilities that command premium pay.
While salary outcomes vary by trade, experience level, and location, OSHA-trained workers in construction can expect to earn between $20 and $35+ per hour, depending on their specialty, with safety supervisors and site managers earning significantly more. In the general industry, OSHA-trained workers in manufacturing, warehousing, and logistics report improved hiring prospects and access to roles with safety-focused pay differentials.
How Do I Get OSHA Training?
Enrolling in OSHA Outreach training takes just a few steps:
- Choose your course level. Most entry-level workers start with the 10-Hour course. Supervisors and safety professionals typically enroll in the 30-Hour option.
- Select your industry track. Both course levels are available in Construction and General Industry.
- Complete your training online. Everything is self-paced with no prerequisites required for the 10-Hour course.
- Download your certificate. It's available instantly as soon as you finish.
Courses are updated regularly to reflect current federal standards, so your training stays compliant from day one.
