OSHA Georgia Training Requirements

Some states have an occupational health and safety regulatory program of their own to extend or enhance federal OSHA guidelines. But Georgia doesn't have a "state plan." Georgians fall under federal OSHA rules instead, which cover most private-sector workers.

OSHA Georgia requires safety training on specific topics relevant to your job and workplace. They also have a program for authorized "Outreach" training (often referred to as 10-hour or 30-hour "DOL" cards). Outreach courses aren't mandatory by federal OR state regulation. However, OSHA recommends these courses as a general orientation to safety, and they typically cover required topics that are common for workers in a specific industry.

For those reasons, many Georgia employers require DOL cards of their employees even though it isn't required by law. OSHA designs 10-hour courses for entry-level/non-supervisory workers and 30-hour courses for supervisors.
