If you’re reading this, chances are you already know the perks and the cons that come with the bartending industry. Among the perks: fast, easily accessible income; a friendly work environment; access to great food, wine, and cocktails; meeting new people. The cons? Dealing with unhappy and/or unruly customers; carrying the ball when other staff members can’t keep up with the pace; the risk of a slow night derailing your finances for the week; long nights and weekends spent working while friends and family are enjoying other activities. Bartenders are usually asked to shoulder a greater burden of responsibility, too, often without being compensated for it. So why bartending? And why as a career?
