What is Hydroelectric and Gas Turbines Technology?

Energy cannot be created or destroyed but it can be made to change its form and harnessed that way. That is the concept behind hydroelectric and gas powered technology. Hydroelectric power comes from water which is in motion. Both can be used to generate power through motion or via kinetic energy.

Where does Hydroelectric and Gas Turbines energy come from?

When water is used to turn blades in a turbine, the energy that results from it is called mechanical energy. The process is quite simple. The turbine in turn turns on the rotor of the generator which then converts that energy into electricity. Since water triggers this progress, the energy that is generated is called hydropower or hydroelectric power.

That is why power plants are usually located on large bodies of water such as rivers, canals and streams. However, since those can dry up, they make use of dams to store water for later release not only for electricity generation but also for irrigation purposes. Think of them as a battery which stores water when needed.

How is energy being harnessed with the use of Hydroelectric and Gas Turbines Technology?

Cogeneration or combined heat and power is also used to generate electricity as well as heat. It does that via exhaust energy from gas turbines and steam is created in a heat exchanger. This steam is then used to power several applications without using up any fuel.

In other words, both hydroelectric and gas turbine technologies are self-sufficient and sustainable sources of energy. Both use one source of fuel to produce heat and electricity at the same time.
