Be sure to check beforehand with your employer or potential employers to inquire about available opportunities for on-the-job training

How Do I Become A Water Treatment Operator?

While some water treatment operator positions require a degree in chemistry, biology, environmental science, or chemical engineering, the essential first step for getting a job in the water treatment industry is to earn a basic water treatment operator certification, sometimes called wastewater treatment certification.

These certifications are state-specific and earned by completing water treatment training. Each state has different levels and requirements, so you’ll need to look up the process where you live.

What Do Water Treatment Training Courses Teach You?

Water treatment courses cover everything you need to know for a career as a water treatment operator or service technician. Water treatment operator training covers the advantages and disadvantages of water treatment, as well as the different types of water treatment processes and what they’re used for.

You’ll learn about water clarification (the removal of solid particulates), water disinfection (the destruction of pathogenic organisms), and water softening (the removal of minerals), as well as various technologies for treating water like media filtration, electronic deionization, resin bed demineralizers, reverse osmosis, and ultrafiltration.

Water treatment training can be delivered in person, but it’s also possible to take water treatment courses online. There are many advantages to completing your water treatment operator training online. You can study anywhere, and anytime it’s convenient, picking up where you left off on the nearest device. Since online courses have no set schedule, you can wait to study when you’re fresh and awake. You’ll also be able to study at your own pace.
